The Team has expertise in the theory and practice of conserving buildings and understands the materials used in restoring buildings. The team understand the site risks and the approach necessary for this type of work. The use of non destructive inspection techniques can save time and avoid unnecessary damage through areas being opened up for inspection. ME Construction give the following particular consideration to work on Historic buildings:

-
Become thoroughly familiar with the specialist techniques during the pre contract period
-
Assess the operational fire risk and cater accordingly
-
Consider the likelihood of any specialist insurance risks
-
Salvage and re-use existing materials as far as possible
-
Establish whether there are any areas, items or artefacts that require special protection
-
Make adequate enquires concerning the availability of historic materials
-
Ensure the specialist sub contractors workforce have the necessary skills to carry out the work.
Repairing and conserving historic buildings has become a very specialist and important area of work requiring a thorough understanding of both traditional and new technology. We know how to effectively manage and integrate the various specialist teams ensuring the right sequence of work is maintained and thus ensuring the success of the project.
The need to undertake an in-depth survey of old buildings is essential as is to maintain detailed records throughout the process.
-
Make arrangements to carry out a detailed dilapidations’ survey to record the state of the works prior to commencement
-
We pay special attention to the scaffolding needs and any additional protection measures. The scaffolding contractors we use have previously worked on listed build work and would be briefed on the site specific needs
-
Early investigation needs to be given to environmental matters, such as the care of bats, barn owls, newts and other creatures which are legally protected under the UK biodiversity action plan (BAP)
